YOUTH BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

 

Girls Grades 3rd – 8th, Feb. 10-11, 2024

Boys Grades 3rd – 8th, Feb. 17-18, 2024

 

Where:         Yutan, NE

HWY 92 (15 miles west of Omaha)

 

Games:        Guaranteed 3 games

 

Awards:       Medals will be given to 1st place in each division

Yutan Elementary School

Yutan Activity Center

 

Registration Fee:   $160 per team

 

Registration Deadline:     Jan. 26th for girls

Feb. 2nd for boys

 

Tournament Rules:

• 20 minute halves with running clock until final minute of each half.  Stops on all whistles in last minute.
• 3 minute overtimes with clock running until final minute
• Provide your own warm-up balls
• Each team is required to bring a score keeper
• Be ready to play 15 minutes prior to game
• Pressing to a 15 point lead will be allowed in all divisions.    
• 8th Grade Boys division will use a regulation Men’s basketball
• 2 timeouts per half with no carry-over; timeouts last one minute; one additional timeout in an overtime
• Bonus free throw on the 7th team foul, double bonus on the 10th
• Unless otherwise noted, all other Nebraska high school basketball rules will apply

 

Admission:  Adults - $5 per day

                     Students - $2 per day

                     Under 5 - free

I give permission on behalf of the players and parents, for these team members to participate in the Yutan Youth Basketball Tournament.  I understand the Yutan Youth Activities Association, the Yutan Public Schools, and any volunteers working at the tournament has no responsibility, assumes none, and does not carry insurance for the benefit of the players.  Full responsibility for any medical expenses incurred as a result of participating in the tournament, are assumed by the parents and/or guardians of the players.  All rights against the Yutan Youth Activities Association, the Yutan Public Schools, and any volunteers working at the tournament are waived.

Kindergarten-2nd Grade

Primary Focus:  Teaching & practicing fundamentals such as:  dribbling, pivoting, passing, and shooting.  Repetition of these fundamentals is key at this age.

- Register through YYA to ensure everyone has an opportunity to play.

- Coaches/parents will decide if they want to enter any league/tournaments, but practicing fundamentals should remain the top priority.

-More time spent on practicing & repetition of fundamentals than playing games.

-Cost: $25

-Additional $50 for jersey (This is optional)

 

3rd & 4th Grade 

- If there are enough players for two teams in a grade, they are split equally.

Primary Focus:  Repetition of fundamentals:  dribbling, passing, pivoting, and shooting.  Teaching man to man defensive principles and learning basic offensive movements.

-Cost: $125    This includes a jersey, shorts, shooting shirt, league entry fees, and equipment.  

LEAGUE:  Elkhorn Conqueror League

• All games are played at one of the Elkhorn Middle Schools.

• No admission fees for spectators.

BOYS:  League runs from October - December.  

• If teams want to play in a "Winter" league after Christmas break, it is up to the coaches/parents to enter and cover costs.

GIRLS:  League runs from January - March.

• If teams want to play in the “Fall” league, it is up to the coaches/parents to enter and cover costs.

**Although games can be important for development & fun, more time should be spent on practice and repetition of fundamentals.

 5th & 6th Grade 

- If there are enough players for two teams in a grade, they are split into an “A” & “B” team.  The coaches that volunteer will work together to determine teams.  If needed, the high school coaching staff will provide input to coaches when evaluating players.  This will allow players to play in a league division that matches their skill level so they can be challenged and successful.

Primary Focus:  Repetition of fundamentals:  dribbling, passing, pivoting, and shooting.  Teaching man to man defensive principles and learning basic offensive structures/movements.

-Cost: $125    This includes a jersey, shorts, shooting shirt, league entry fees, and equipment.

Other information

***Yutan Youth Tournament

• We do not charge the Yutan teams to participate.  In return, it is a requirement that our parents volunteer to help run it. 

***Students who do not attend Yutan Schools are welcome to register. However, the board will evaluate these to determine if they are able to participate or not.

***There will be a pre-season parent/coaches meeting prior to the season starting.
